Music in Schools
Music touches the heart and feeds the brain of young children, yet it is cut from many Schools.
You can volunteer by teaching music in your child’s class every week for 30 minutes.
Music for Minors II (MFMII) brings engaging, high-quality music education directly into the classroom through trained volunteer docents. Each week, students receive a 30-minute lesson designed to spark curiosity, build skills, and nurture a lifelong appreciation for music.
Our docents are enthusiastic, well-trained community volunteers, many of them parents—who are dedicated to fostering both music literacy and a love of the arts. Since 1988, MFMII has helped keep music alive in schools by recruiting, training, and supporting these volunteers. The program is proudly approved by the FUSD school district.
Lessons are dynamic and interactive, incorporating singing and signing, movement and dance, rhythm instruments, and exposure to a wide variety of musical styles. Through these experiences, students not only discover the joy of music but also strengthen important academic and social skills. Music education supports cognitive development, enhances focus, encourages cooperation, and helps students build a positive connection to school.
Beyond the classroom, MFMII offers enriching opportunities such as live performances on professional stages and special presentations, including Taiko drumming, patriotic sing-alongs, and Blues in the Schools programs.
Music is more than an art form. It’s a vital part of a child’s education, engaging both the mind and the heart.
School principals, educators, and teachers are invited to connect with us at info@musicforminors2.org to learn how MFMII can support and enrich your students’ learning experience.
