Event Recap by Leo Hinkel, Board President
Cheers for Twenty Years was a most successful
event, and it just had to be. The planning for it starting in July 2007 with meetings taking place monthly until the time got closer when the committee seemed to meet almost every week. Plus, there were individuals meeting frequently to bring quality to the event. The setup at the Niles Veterans Building was beautifully done and the over 200 quests, docents, and active participants truly enjoyed the evening.

Everyone worked so hard to make this an event to be remembered for many years. The catering of the food was great and very tasty. The display of food at the main table was always crowded with individuals harvesting a variety of morsels. The displays in the center hall and in the hallway were excellent and much time was taken to arrange the items in the baskets and cover each one with cellophane.

Red Grammer was outstanding in his performance and song selections. The audience appeared thrilled to be present and valued his talent, energy, and genuine delivery of each song. He was a part of the audience and they were a part of him. It was wonderful to also have Charlotte Diamond singing, especially when she and Red did their duet. We loved them both and good things do come to an end.

There were at least two more highlights of the evening: One was the honoring of the docents and the others who support Music for Minors II. They were introduced and brought up on the stage. It was inspiring to see them together to receive the recognition they deserve. They are the heart of our program and showed their talents too as they sang to everyone's enjoyment. Red and Charlotte were also on stage joining in on the singing.

The other special moment (and what an opportune time to do so) was to single out and show our love, respect, and admiration of Carol Zilli. She has been the force, energy, and talent behind Music for Minors II for the past twenty years. It was our pleasure to shower her with flowers and gifts for the many gifts she has given to so many over the years. WHAT AN EVENING!

A BIG THANK YOU to all who give so much of themselves - for the big things and the small. Your willingness and support are sincerely appreciated!
