Music
video says it all
Students and local PTA members create a
Youtube posting that's fun but carries a serious message
about education funding in California
What
can parents do in the face of budget cuts that threaten
their children's public schools? Get creative, make a
music video and post it on Youtube to get the word - and
song and dance - out.
First District California State PTA members in South
Pasadena did just that. Click
on the image at right to watch students in the
South Pasadena Grade "A" Jug Band perform
"We Ain't Got the
Do Re Mi."
The audience for the video so far has included Jack
O'Connell,
California Superintendent of Public Instruction. He
watched it on June 3 during a visit to Arroyo Vista
Elementary School in South Pasadena.
"It
was great," O'Connell said, who also praised the
project as "creative" and
"original."
California
State PTA member Deb McCurdy rewrote the lyrics to
"Do Re Mi," a Woody Guthrie song of 1937. The
video was directed and edited by another California
State PTA member, Helen Mendoza.
"We wanted to produce a fun but throught-provoking
video," Mendoza said.
We think you'll find the video carries just the right
tune and message. Please share this email with everyone
who cares about the children of California.
